Position Purpose

The Finance Officer – Healthcare (Medicare & Billing Specialist) plays a key role in ensuring clinic revenue is captured fully and accurately. The position provides dedicated expertise in end-of-month reconciliations and Medicare claiming, acting as a conduit between Patient Services and Finance to ensure all clinic revenue streams are correctly billed, reconciled and supported by appropriate documentation.

Key Responsibilities

Billing and invoicing

• Review, reconcile and validate accounts monthly to prevent revenue leakage and ensure accuracy of end-of-month processing.

• Complete monthly reconciliation of Medicare payments and remittances, including investigation and management of Medicare rejections.
• Complete monthly reconciliation of day hospital billings, ensuring all billable activity is invoiced and supported by appropriate documentation.

Policy, procedure and continuous improvement 

• Develop national SOPs for AR processes to ensure clear, repeatable and compliant practice as they relate to cycle billing
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and a culture of clarity and care
• Lead a patient‑centred AR process with clear, compassionate financial conversations

Reporting and insights

• Establish baseline AR metrics, reporting frameworks and dashboards for data‑driven decisions
• Generate timely financial performance reports highlighting trends, risks and collection effectiveness

Communication and Collaboration

• Conduct empathetic payment negotiations and offer appropriate hardship pathways
• Collaborate with Patient Services and Operations to streamline billing workflows and reduce patient frustration
• Identify systemic issues causing billing errors or delays and support sustainable fixes

Collections and dispute resolution

• Proactively manage overdue accounts with structured, compliant follow‑up schedules (aged debtors)
• Resolve invoice disputes

What We Are Looking For

1. Demonstrated accounts receivable and billing experience within healthcare (highly regarded) including Medicare billing and rejection management (essential). Experience with day hospital billing and billing software (highly regarded).
2. Strong systems capability and Excel skills; able to reconcile data across practice management and finance systems.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including confidence in respectful and empathetic financial conversations.
4. High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to document and improve structured processes (SOPs, reporting frameworks).
5. Values-driven approach demonstrating professionalism, ethical conduct and a commitment to improving the patient experience.
