About the role:

City Fertility is seeking a dedicated Embryologist to join our FSWA Lab team in Applecross. This full-time permanent position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to our renowned laboratory services. The purpose of this role is to support the day to day running productivity and efficiencies of the laboratory safely and efficiently.  Responsible for lab requirements, including but not limited to, embryology and andrology and patient liaison during treatment, equipment, employees, supplies, software and documentation.

  • The role requires ongoing updating of competency in laboratory practices.

  • This position may include weekend and public holiday coverage based on an on-call roster system

Job Description

Core objectives include:

  • Undertake activities efficiently and productively to work towards the overall aim of achieving business objectives.
  • Day to day laboratory operational tasks
  • Provide quality patient services
  • Communicate with patients, clinicians, managers and other departments
  • Perform and maintain competencies in:
    • semen preparation, analysis (includes Abs/DNA fragmentation) and freezing (IUI, IVF/ICSI, TESA/PESA).  
    • embryo transfer (uterine or tubal).
    • ICSI and standard inseminations
    • embryo cryopreservation, vitrification, assisted hatching and thawing
    • embryo trophectoderm biopsy and cell tube transfer
  • Attend patient PGS/PGD education sessions
  • Provide training and mentoring to others in areas you are deemed competent as approved by your lab supervisor/ manager 
  • Communicate with a vision to educate patients when providing scientific information
  • Provide recommendations to clinicians for patient treatment plans
  • Review patient treatment plans to ensure consistency and accuracy

Desired Skills and Experience

About you:

Required qualifications include: 

  • Bachelor degree or higher qualification
  • Intermediate to high level of understanding of IVF terminology
  • Driver's License (if required for the role)
  • Capacity to work in Australia

Experience: 

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in IVF industry
  • Specialised IVF embryologist on-the-job training may be required in addition to the formal qualification

Skills and competencies:

  • Customer Service
  • In depth understanding of Assisted Reproductive Technology
  • Intermediate MS Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Capacity to undertake document/literature searches
  • Good understanding of IVF Cycle types
  • Good understanding of:
    • Patient Consent Process
    • Counselling for IVF patients
    • IVF terminology
    • Female Anatomy / Menstrual cycles / Hormones / Infertility
    • Male Anatomy / Infertility
    • Donated gametes or embryos
    • Surrogacy
    • Advanced Embryo Selection and CGH
    • Relevant state and government legislation (if applicable)
    • IVF regulations, legislation and guidelines
